Abstract

Research on the effects of climate change on technological processes in aquaculture was carried out for the fish ponds intended for raising fish at different development stages within the Nucet experimental base (Nucet Research and Development Station for Fish Farming). The studies were conducted for the period 2014–2023, and for this purpose the evolution of the following parameters was analyzed: the length of the growing and overwintering seasons; air temperature; water temperature; precipitation; chemical water quality parameters: oxygen, pH, nitrites, nitrates, phosphates and ammonium; hydrobiological parameters: phytoplankton, zooplankton.

Analysis of the studied parameters showed that most of the physico-chemical parameters fall within quality class II for surface waters. The average water temperature recorded a gradual increase over the analyzed period, with a minimum average value of 14.24°C recorded in 2015 and a maximum average value of 15.85°C in 2022. This increase from 2015 is approximately 1.3 degrees higher than the average of previous years.

The average air temperature varied between a minimum average value of 11.3°C in 2015 and a maximum average value of 12.8°C in 2023, showing an increasing trend over the analyzed period. In addition, high water temperatures led to a decrease in dissolved oxygen content in the water. Analysis of the multi-annual variation in annual precipitation indicated the occurrence of a series of dry years after 2017.

Establishing the impact of climate change on technological processes in aquaculture, particularly on the controlled reproduction of farmed fish, helps in testing certain species with regard to their adaptive abilities and in identifying genetic resources at the population level.
