Abstract
The Research-Development Institute for Aquatic Ecology, Fisheries and Aquaculture in Galați is the only branch institute in Romania whose main activity is research in the field of fish farming. It operates under the provisions of Law no. 45/2009 as a public law institution organized as a public institution, with legal personality, under the subordination of the “Gheorghe Ionescu-Sişeşti” Academy of Agricultural and Forestry Sciences and H.G. no. 369/2017 supplemented by H.G. 543/2023. The Institute was established by Decree no. 33/21.02.1981, under the name “Research-Design Center for Pisciculture, Fishing and Fish Industrialization Galați”. It continued the “Institute of Fisheries Research of Romania” which operated in the period 1947-1976 in the research-development area in the field of fish farming. In the period 2020-2024, the institution has experienced a spectacular increase in the results obtained in the field of research, both due to the increase in the number of researchers and, especially, due to the involvement in an increased number of projects. At the same time, the impact at national and international level of the results obtained by the institution has increased. This material only details this trend.
